People depend on police officers and detectives to protect their lives and property. Law enforcement officers have duties that range from controlling traffic to preventing and investigating crimes. They maintain order; enforce laws and ordinances; issue traffic summonses; investigate accidents; present evidence in court; serve legal documents for the court system; and apprehend, arrest and process prisoners.
The 911 Call Taking event is where competitors will receive a simulated 911 emergency call and gather all pertinent information required for dispatch. Competitors will not be dispatching units, just receiving the call.
The agility course will train students to develop endurance, muscle coordination, and mental capacity on skill sets that will challenge them in real world law enforcement scenarios. 3 Male and 3 Female Competitors per chapter will be allowed to compete.
The Building Search event will provide student competitors the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to properly search a building in response to a report of activity at a location (alarm, unauthorized entry, suspicious person, etc...).
The Crash Investigation event will provide students the opportunity to demonstrate diagramming/sketching, photographing, and documenting a simulated crash scene; in compliance with the Texas Department of Transportation’s crash reporting requirements.
The Disturbance Call event will provide student competitors the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to respond to and properly assess a domestic disturbance call.
The Felony Traffic Stop event is designed to provide student competitors the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to conduct a high risk traffic stop related to a felony offense.
The Foot Pursuit event will provide student competitors the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to properly pursue a suspect on foot in response to a report of activity at a location (evading arrest, burglary just occurred, etc.).
Writing a detailed report is important part of an officer’s job. Reports provide investigators the necessary information to follow through on the case. It is imperative for officers to be able to document details and accurate facts in their reports. A report is an official record of the case file and will be presented in a court of law. This event evaluates the competitors ability to accurately complete a police report after viewing a incident take place.
The SWAT event provides student competitors the opportunity to demonstrate the skills necessary to carry out a tactical response to a simulated shots fired or officer down call.
